In anticipation of the New Year 2026, the Berkarar Shopping and Entertainment Center hosted the “World of Dolls and Toys” folk arts and crafts exhibition, bringing together artisans from across Turkmenistan.
\nThe exhibition displayed designer dolls and toys created with attention to national traditions and a contemporary artistic vision. Tazegul Udayeva from Balkanabat brought a collection of traditional dolls, while Marina Lopatina from the Mary Region presented exquisite miniature works with striking detail.
\nThe exhibition organizer, Turkmen folk artist Gulya Mailievna Kurbanova, noted that interest in folk arts and crafts is noticeably growing in the country. She noted that it is thanks to the talent and dedication of these artisans that the cultural heritage conveyed through doll images and symbols is preserved and developed.
\nThe tradition of selecting a doll for the exhibition poster attracted particular attention. This year, the doll chosen was “Turkmen Bride” by Tatyana Dvoryaninova. At the exhibition, the artist presented her composition “Tea Party,” which subtly conveyed Turkmen etiquette and family customs through poses and costume details.
\nVisitors saw red fiery horses\u2014the symbol of 2026 according to the Eastern calendar\u2014roomboxes with a cross-section of a yurt, baby camels symbolizing prosperity, and unusual handmade dolls with distinct personalities. Many craftswomen not only displayed their work but also shared their technique and design secrets with each other.
\nOf particular interest were Jennet Yusupova’s Christmas tree decorations with painted images and Bakhar Mukhammedova’s festive lamps, which transformed the exhibition space into a glowing installation. Natalia Kalugina’s exhibition “Turkmenistan” became a unique artistic calling card for the country, combining images of Akhal-Teke horses, Alabai dogs, and folk tale characters.
\nAs part of the exhibition, a master class on painting Turkmen ornamental elements was held for children, allowing young guests to experience traditional art.
