Ahead of the Hajj, the Al-Haram Mosque in Mecca has received a humanoid robot, Manara. It helps pilgrims navigate the site by answering questions in 11 languages, including Arabic, English, Urdu, Bengali, and Malay.
\nThe Hajj in 2025 will take place from June 4 to 9. A large number of believers are expected at the city’s largest mosque, and the authorities are introducing technologies in advance to improve convenience and safety.
\nManara is part of a national program to digitalize the religious sphere. The robot explains the rules of rituals, how to behave in the temple, and the sacred meaning of worship. In difficult cases, it connects a person with a spiritual mentor via video link.
\nThe device is equipped with a touch screen, cameras, a microphone, speakers, and a navigation system. Manara moves on four wheels and does not interfere with the movement of people. It uses a 5G network, which allows the robot to respond quickly.
\nManara is decorated with traditional patterns to fit organically into the interior.
\nIn addition, sensors and cameras with AI have been installed in Mecca to track crowds and regulate flows.
