A signed passport photo of Marilyn Monroe has sold at auction for more than 21 000 dollars, as reported by the New York Post. The photo was taken in 1954, a few weeks after the American actress’s wedding to baseball player Joe DiMaggio.
\nThe couple was planning a trip to Japan for their honeymoon, but 27-year-old Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson, did not have the necessary photo for the documents. DiMaggio improvised: he went to the nearest arcade with a photo of the star of the film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and made several copies. The vintage photo, measuring 5.7 x 6.9 centimeters, that went under the hammer was not included in Monroe’s passport. It contains her autograph, which she left for the passport officer: “To Mr. Bolds, thank you and my warmest wishes, Marilyn Monroe DiMaggio.”
