Budapest has been named among the 50 finalists in the Bloomberg Philanthropies 2025 Mayors Challenge in the Innovation City category, AZERTAC reported, citing the city\u2019s mayor\u2019s office. According to the MTI news agency, cities were selected from 630 applicants to receive a grant of $50,000.
\nBudapest presented the project jointly with the city\u2019s food processing company. The initiative is aimed at processing surplus fruits and vegetables from local markets into frozen foods, jams, and pickles. These products will mainly be used to feed schools and nursing homes.
\nThe project will significantly reduce food waste, improve the quality of nutrition for children and the elderly, support the circular economy, and increase the income of local producers by creating a market for quality products that were previously not in demand.
