On August 11-12, celebratory events dedicated to the Day of Caspian Sea were held in the National Tourist Zone \u201cAvaza\u201d.
\nOn the morning of August 12, the Scientific-practical conference entitled \u201cThe Caspian Sea \u2013 Sea of Friendship and Peace\u201d has opened and was moderated by the Director of the Caspian Sea Institute Myrat Atajanov.
\nThe opening of the conference was marked by a welcoming message from the esteemed President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, addressed to the participants of the scientific-practical conference \u201cThe Caspian Sea \u2013 Sea of Friendship and Peace.\u201d
\nThe event was attended by official representatives of Turkmenistan, ambassadors of Caspian states accredited in Ashgabat, heads of representative offices of international and regional organizations, including the UN, OSCE, EU, as well as international experts.
\nIn his speech, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov noted Turkmenistan\u2019s active and constructive role in promoting environmental issues in the Caspian region, in particular the Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Aquatic Biological Resources of the Caspian Sea.
\nThe importance of the Caspian Environmental Initiative, put forward by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the plenary meeting of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, was particularly emphasized.
\nDuring the Conference, Turkmenistan\u2019s commitment to close cooperation with the Caspian states, international structures and institutions, as well as stakeholders on the whole range of Caspian issues was noted.
\nReports on the most pressing issues, including priority areas of cooperation among Caspian states in the fields of hydrometeorology, protection and scientific study of the flora and fauna of the Caspian Sea, and compliance with environmental standards and regulations were heard at the Conference.
\nThe participants of the Conference noted that the Caspian Sea is a sea of friendship and peace, and called for continued joint work aimed at strengthening and expanding international cooperation for the sake of sustainable development and protection of the Caspian marine environment.
