Afghanistan has signed contracts worth 243 million dollars with Uzbekistan to implement four key energy projects aimed at improving the country’s energy supply, the office of the acting vice prime minister for economic affairs said in a statement, Xinhua reported.
\nThe contracts were signed in the presence of Afghanistan’s acting vice prime minister for economic affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and Uzbekistan’s energy minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, as well as government officials in the capital, Kabul, the statement added.
\nThe projects are expected to be completed within 18 months.
\nAccording to Gazeta.uz, the following major projects have been approved:
\nexpansion of the 500 kV Surkhan-Dashti Alvan power transmission line with a capacity of 1,000 MW;
\nexpansion of the Argandi substation with a capacity of 800 megavolt-amperes (MVA);
\nconstruction of the Sheikh Mesri substation in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province;
\nexpansion of the 220 kV Kabul-Nangarhar transmission line.
\nDuring the ceremony, DABS CEO Abdul Bari Omar described the four agreements as vital to ensuring reliable power supply in Afghanistan.
