On September 22, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov participated in a high-level plenary meeting dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, which was held at the Organization’s headquarters in New York.
\nThe event began with a musical performance by the youth choir “Sing for Hope,” singers from the Metropolitan Opera Choir, and pianist David Watkins with conductor Tilman Michael.
\nIn her address, UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock recalled the history of the Organization, its current challenges, and the need to work together.
\nA video dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the UN was shown during the event.
\nThe meeting participants then heard a statement by UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres. In his address, the Secretary-General noted the importance of the difficult work of UN staff throughout the Organization’s existence. He spoke about the current realities and called for coordinated work.
\n“The only way forward is to act together.” “Let us prove ourselves worthy of this moment \u2013 \u200b\u200bwith clarity, courage, and conviction. And let us turn the promise of peace into reality,” he noted.
\n2021 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Maria Ressa spoke at the meeting. In her address, she spoke about the challenges facing human rights and information in the digital age.
\nNobel Peace Prize Laureate and former President of Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and former Prime Minister of Norway Gro Harlem Brundtland also spoke at the event.
\nTheir speeches emphasized the important role of the UN in ensuring peace, security, sustainable development, and human rights.
\nThe meeting concluded with a speech by Ambassador of Peace and poet Maryam Bukar Hassan.
