Turkmenistan participated in the opening ceremony of the third CIS Games, which took place at the central city stadium in Ganja, Azerbaijan.
\nAzerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev welcomed the participants and guests. The opening ceremony organizers prepared musical and dance performances, as well as mass productions reflecting the history and culture of the host country.
\nDelegations from each participating country ceremoniously paraded through the stadium. Basketball player Shakir Sunnetov carried the flag of Turkmenistan.
\nThe Turkmen delegation included 41 athletes competing in seven disciplines. Turkmen athletes will compete in 3×3 basketball, boxing, karate, clay pigeon shooting, swimming, taekwondo, and wrestling.
\nThe third CIS Games are being held at 12 sports venues in seven cities of Azerbaijan: Ganja, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Gabala, Sheki, Goygol, and Khankendi. The tournament will run until October 8.
