Visitors to Rome’s Trevi Fountain, famous for throwing coins into it, will now have to pay a 2 euro ticket fee to throw a coin in.
\nThe historic fountain, which is always crowded with people year-round for the coin-throwing ritual, now has ticket booths.
\nTourists who traditionally throw coins into the fountain to make wishes such as “love” or “a return to Rome” will now have to pay a 2 euro entrance fee.
\nPayment will be required between 11:30 AM and 10:00 PM on Mondays and Fridays, and between 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM on the rest of the week.
\nResidents of Rome, people with disabilities, and tour guides will be able to enter for free upon presentation of identification.
\nThe Rome Municipality aims to both reduce the clutter around the fountain and generate extra revenue with this initiative.
