On 5th April, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan was the venue for the final rounds of the “Francophonie 2025” competition, which featured song and oral spelling contests. The event culminated in an awarding ceremony recognizing the winners.
The celebration, marking “30 Years of Teaching French in Turkmenistan,” saw welcoming addresses from Gulshat Yusupova, Rector of the Institute of International Relations, and Philippe Merlin, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Turkmenistan.
The “Francophonie 2025” program, timed to coincide with International Francophone Day (March 20th), included finals for song performance, written creativity, and oral spelling, as well as the presentation of awards to winners of French language Olympiads from various schools.
The annual event is a collaborative effort between the French Institute in Turkmenistan at the Embassy of France and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. It receives support from embassies of member countries of the International Organization of Francophonie, the Delegation of the European Union, and UNICEF.
Participants encompassed a wide range of French language enthusiasts, including secondary and higher education students, individuals enrolled at the French Institute in Turkmenistan, library patrons, and others eager to showcase their French proficiency.
“Francophonie” serves as a significant platform for French language learners to enhance their linguistic skills, deepen their understanding of French culture, and test their capabilities. The “Francophonie 2025” competition and related events aim to promote the French language and culture within Turkmenistan, while fostering stronger international relations.
