On 12 June, an International Conference: Peace, Sustainable Development and Migration, likely focused on the role of migration in achieving sustainable development goals, was held in Ashgabat at “Yyldyz hotel”. The conference, organized by State Migration service of Turkmenistan jointly with International Organization for Migration (IOM) brought together with delegates of the Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzystan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Russian Federation, representatives of international organizations like the UN, and experts in international relations, security, and journalists. The event moderated by Arslan Djumakurbanov, representative of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan aimed to explore the interconnectedness of peace, sustainable development, and migration, and to identify ways to improve international cooperation in achieving these goals.


The international conference began with opening speech of the Mahri Byashimova, Deputy Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. During the event, that is held in five session participants discussed about the documentation and cross-border cooperation, identification of individuals and counteracting illegal migration and use of biometric documents and digital identification.
Participants examined the positive and negative impacts of migration on sustainable development, and discussed which migration caused by climate and ecological disaster. To solve the problems they also discussed about cross-border coordination in response to environmental migration and regional cooperation (climate and mobility in Central Asia).
The conference also acknowledged the importance of dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders in resolving conflict situations and promoting peace.
