The Ashgabat stage of the Grand Prix chess competition, which took place from May 4 to 8, concluded today in the capital of Turkmenistan at the Specialized Chess and Checkers School of the Main Directorate of Physical Culture and Sports.
The competition was held under the auspices of the National Chess Federation in support of state policy aimed at developing physical culture and sports in Turkmenistan.
Over 270 players participated in the tournament, which was held in accordance with FIDE rules and took into account international ratings. The competition was conducted using the Swiss system over 9 rounds.
Tournament Results
1st Place: Annamuhammed Khommadov (Open Category) – 100% result – 9 games out of 9, Specialized Chess and Checkers School of Ashgabat, and Aiya Bayramova (women’s category), Sports School No. 13, Turkmenabat, Lebap province.
2nd place: Ali Akhmedov (men’s category), Ashgabat Specialized Chess and Checkers School, and Myahri Agamuradova (women’s category), Sports School No. 13, Turkmenabat, Lebap province.
3rd place: Shakhrukh Turayev (men’s category), Chess Federation of Turkmenistan, and Nurana Soyunova (women’s category), “Küşt älemi” Academy, Ashgabat.
The official uniform of the national chess team was presented at the awards ceremony. The athletes will compete in the first Chess Olympiad among Turkic countries from May 13 to 18 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
