The ninth International Summer School for Young Archivists opened in the capital of Kazakhstan, bringing together representatives of archival services from the CIS countries. This year, the challenges and opportunities of the industry’s digital transformation were a key focus of professional discussion. A delegation from Turkmenistan is actively participating in this large-scale event aimed at modernizing approaches to preserving historical heritage.
The educational and practical program unfolded on the sidelines of the specialized congress “Digital Archive EXPO.” Experts from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan focused on studying best practices. Delegates paid special attention to digital collection management mechanisms and the specifics of working with complex audiovisual documents.
The school’s main technological trend was the integration of artificial intelligence technologies into everyday archival practice. Participants analyzed how neural networks and automated systems can simplify cataloging, accelerate digitization, and improve the accuracy of information retrieval. The implementation of such innovations is intended to take archival work in the Commonwealth to a fundamentally new level.
The forum, held in Astana, fulfills an important mission to strengthen international cooperation and establish common standards in the digital age. The knowledge gained by young specialists will help them more effectively address the challenges of preserving national archival resources. New competencies will make priceless historical documents more accessible to researchers and the public.
