On July 14, a seminar entitled “Tourism Malaysia-2026” was held at the “Archabil” Hotel in Ashgabat with the support of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture of Turkmenistan. The event, organized by the “Tourism Malaysia” agency and the Embassy of Malaysia in Turkmenistan, presented Malaysia’s tourism opportunities. Representatives of travel companies, journalists, and other guests were invited to it.

The event was attended by Gulshat Bakiyeva, Deputy Head of the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, and Nor Shazli Azmi, Head of Tourism Malaysia Almaty, who provided information on the achievements and prospects of the tourism sector between the two countries. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Turkmenistan, Mohd Suhaimi bin Ahmad Tajuddin, also made a video address.
Gulshat Bakiyeva noted that due to the tireless efforts of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, great progress has been achieved in the tourism sector, as well as the special importance attached to the development of international tourism. According to her, more than 20 agreements on cooperation have been signed between tourism companies of Turkmenistan and Malaysia. There are more than 30 tourism companies in Turkmenistan, many of which actively cooperate with Malaysia.

At the same time, G. Bakiyeva noted that Malaysia is particularly interested in cooperation with Turkmenistan, and the participation of Malaysian travel companies in the international tourism exhibition “Turkmentravel-2026” held in April of this year is a clear proof of this.
At the presentation, Nor Shazli Azmi announced that 10,750 tourists from Turkmenistan visited this country in 2025. This figure is 42.5 percent higher than the previous year. As of May of this year, 3,482 tourists from Turkmenistan visited Malaysia.
“One of the main reasons for this development is the establishment of direct air services between Ashgabat and Kuala Lumpur,” said the head of Tourism Malaysia Almaty.
A video clip was also shown during the event, providing information about Malaysia’s tourist destinations.
The Tourism Malaysia agency, which has adopted the slogan “Malaysia is trulyAsia,” is affiliated with the country’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and is engaged in promoting Malaysia’s tourism opportunities to the world.
