From 25 July to 16 August, an international research internship is being held at Clausthal University of Technology (Germany), focusing on the application of artificial intelligence in industry, methane emissions reduction, and the integration of renewable energy sources into energy systems. The internship is organized within the framework of the project “European Union for Green Development in Turkmenistan: Policy Dialogue and Climate Action for 2024–2029,” implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) with the European Union.
A lecturer from the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University is participating in the international research internship alongside representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan, and the Research Institute of Natural Gas of the State Concern “Turkmengaz”. The programme provides participants with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the fundamental principles of artificial intelligence, data processing and normalization techniques, the detection of emissions and operational anomalies, as well as the application of neural networks. Particular emphasis is placed on practical approaches to integrating these technologies into industrial processes.
At the laboratories of Clausthal University of Technology, Turkmen specialists are engaged in research activities covering such areas as well integrity monitoring, deep and directional drilling, and related technological applications. Research is also being conducted on the modelling of photovoltaic systems using artificial intelligence algorithms and on forecasting their performance.
Another key component of the internship is dedicated to technologies for the detection and reduction of methane emissions. The approaches studied in this area are aimed at enhancing the environmental performance of production processes in the oil and gas sector while reducing energy losses and improving the efficient use of energy resources.
As part of the programme, the Turkmen delegation is also scheduled to visit major industrial facilities in Germany. These include an industrial plant for processing sulfur-containing gas, as well as power generation facilities utilizing renewable energy sources, including solar and wind energy. The visits will provide participants with an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the practical application of advanced technologies and renewable energy systems in industrial settings.
The international research internship at Clausthal University of Technology contributes to the further development of the practical expertise of Turkmen specialists in artificial intelligence, machine learning, methane emissions reduction, and renewable energy technologies. The knowledge and experience acquired during the programme are expected to support the continued application of innovative digital solutions and advanced energy technologies in Turkmenistan’s oil and gas and energy sectors.
