The Junior Mental arithmetic World Championship 2026 took place in Bielefeld, Germany, from September 5 to 7. More than 100 skilled mental arithmetic athletes from 14 countries—including China, Singapore, Germany, Japan, and France—participated in this prestigious competition, which has been held since 2008. Over the course of two hours, participants competed in complex mathematical tasks using only mental calculation, including extracting roots, factorization, working with fractions, and determining calendar dates.
Most of the 12 students selected to participate in the JMCWC 2026 following national qualifying rounds achieved scores exceeding 2000 points.
Mekan Nurgeldiyev—a 7th-grade student at Secondary School No. 41 and a graduate of the “Kämil Bilim” educational center’s Anzan program in Turkmenabat—secured third place in the Junior-1 category by scoring 2477 points.
Additionally, Liwanur Berdiyeva, Turkmenistan’s first national record-holder in mental arithmetic, succeeded in ranking among the top eight highest-scoring participants in the Senior category. Jahan Durdymämmedowa, a mental arithmetic teacher, and Halym Annagurbanow, a mathematics teacher from the “Kämil Bilim” educational center, led our country’s team at the championship in Germany.
It is worth noting that last year, our students performed successfully in this prestigious international competition and managed to place in the top ten.
