Archaeologists in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, have unearthed a bronze stone dating back to around 12 centuries. It was found in Manakoshi, a district that was once the administrative center of the Nara period between 710 and 794. The stone, known as a ken, was used to weigh goods for tax purposes since ancient times.
