The A. Osmonov National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic hosted the international conference “Preservation of Traditional Culture and Development of Creative Industries Based on Intangible Cultural Heritage.” This large-scale event was part of the 20th anniversary of the OYMO International Festival of Traditional Culture and Crafts, as reported by the turkmenistan.gov.tm.
The forum in Bishkek brought together over 100 leading experts, museum directors, art historians, designers, and artisans from five countries – Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, India, and the United Kingdom. Participants discussed current issues related to the integration of national heritage into modern creative industries, the legal protection of traditional knowledge, and the role of museums in interpreting nomadic culture.
A special feature of the program was an online presentation by Tadjigul Kurbanova, a national craftsman and head of the national creative group “Design Plus,” operating under the auspices of UNESCO. In her presentation, she detailed the rich traditions of Turkmen folk arts and crafts and shared her successful experience of passing on this unique cultural heritage to the younger generation.
The OIMO Festival has traditionally remained one of the main cultural platforms in Central Asia. Participation in it allows Turkmenistan not only to strengthen international cooperation but also to effectively promote its rich creative potential on the global stage.
