A Californian gardening engineer won the top prize at the annual Northern California Pumpkin Weighing Contest after growing a giant pumpkin weighing 2346 kg.
Brandon Dawson, a production engineer for electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian Automotive, from Santa Rosa, California, won the 52nd World Pumpkin Weighing Championship in Half Moon Bay, south of San Francisco.
Dawson said he has been growing giant pumpkins for five years. He credited the meticulous skills he learned on the job with helping him ensure proper watering and lighting for growing the pumpkins. He also said he enjoys involving his children in the process.
The winner of the pumpkin-growing contest received a 20,000 dollars prize for growing the largest pumpkin.
