On April 4, at the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan in the framework of the European Union’s project “Sustainable Energy Connectivity in Central Asia (SECCA)” was held an international conference “Neutrality Status – a Guarantee for Sustainable Energy Development. Systems Thinking for Integrated Energy and Climate Analysis. Exploring the Specifics of Sustainable Energy Development in Turkmenistan.”
International experts from Italy, Croatia, Georgia, Latvia, and the Republic of Kazakhstan participated in the conference, alongside representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, as well as the academic staff, researchers, postgraduate students, and students of the institute.
As part of the event, participants were introduced to an exhibition of scientific works organized in the main building of the institute. Throughout the conference, several speeches emphasized the importance of energy conservation and the extensive work being done in various sectors of the country’s economy to improve energy efficiency.
Key topics discussed included environmental issues affecting youth, such as climate change, agricultural adaptation to climate change, increasing youth knowledge and capacity in the use of “green” economy principles and renewable energy sources, and enhancing youth engagement in civic activities. Special attention was given to the comprehensive work being carried out in Turkmenistan to ensure the active participation of Turkmen youth—considered the future of the nation—in the public activities of leading global organizations.
As part of the international project, a professional development course was held at the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan for faculty members and researchers. The course, titled “Studying the Features of Implementing Innovative Energy-Efficient Technologies in Turkmenistan’s Climate Conditions”, was conducted in two stages, with participants receiving official certificates.
At the conclusion of the international conference, participants expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the significant efforts made under the esteemed leadership of the President toward the continued advancement of the country’s energy sector. They highlighted that Turkmenistan’s energy diplomacy is a key factor in promoting global peace and sustainable development, and emphasized the importance of international energy security in supporting Turkmenistan’s environmental policy.
