Earlier this week, French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to India elevated the relationship between the two countries to a “special global strategic partnership.” The three-day visit, which began in Mumbai on February 16, was marked by major agreements in the defense, artificial intelligence, and economic sectors.
During the visit, a historic agreement was signed to jointly produce helicopters in India. An artificial intelligence center in healthcare and new joint centers for aviation capabilities were also opened. An agreement to eliminate double taxation was signed, opening new doors for investment.
President Emmanuel Macron noted that this new level of diplomacy is very important and that relations have developed very rapidly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in turn, said that this cooperation is limitless, describing it as a friendship that extends “from the oceans to the highest mountains.”
This visit, Macron’s fourth since 2017, focused mainly on technology and military cooperation. After the meetings in Mumbai, Macron attended the AI Summit in New Delhi. A free trade agreement between India and the EU was also a key topic of discussion.
