Inclement weather in Saudi Arabia has brought another surprise to locals and visitors alike—snow fell in several regions.
In the mountainous areas of Tabuk and Hail, particularly near Mount Jabal al-Lawz, snow blanketed vast tracts of land. Locals and visitors alike took advantage of the rare opportunity to ski, sled, and simply stroll through the snow, with videos quickly going viral on social media.
The Saudi Arabian National Meteorological Center previously issued a warning of a possible sharp drop in temperature and the possibility of snowfall due to a deep cyclone that struck the region.
Due to persistent inclement weather and icy conditions since Monday, December 16, all schools in Riyadh have switched to distance learning. The Directorate General of Civil Defense urged the public to exercise caution and avoid travel to valleys. Many residents, however, welcomed the weather anomaly with delight.
Forecasters predict further snowfall in the northern regions of the country.
