On May 12 in Ashgabat, on the eve of the 7th Central Asian Climate Change Conference (CACIC-2025), a training session for representatives of the state media was held on the topic “Climate change: diversity of content and target audiences.”
Participation in the training brought together journalists from print and electronic media of Turkmenistan with their colleagues from television and radio broadcasting companies of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Intensive training provided them with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about the causes, consequences and measures to fight against global warming.
Leading experts and media trainers, Irina Chistyakova, Marat Sadykov, and climate expert Alexey Kokorin, spoke at the event. They presented the latest scientific data on climate change, its impact on the Central Asian region and Turkmenistan in particular.
Participants actively discussed the role of the media in informing the public, developing a responsible attitude towards the environment and stimulating action aimed at fighting against climate change.
The main objective of the training, organized by the World Bank in cooperation with the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC), was to improve the professional skills of journalists and content creators covering environmental issues, climate change and sustainable development. The organizers of the training emphasized the importance of objective and scientifically based coverage of climate issues in the media space.
Such initiatives contribute to improving the level of environmental literacy of journalists and, as a result, better informing the public about the challenges and opportunities associated with climate change.
