A copy of the first issue of the comic book series featuring Superman’s debut has sold again at auction in the United States for a record 15 million dollars. The comic was previously owned by American actor Nicolas Cage, according to auction house ComicConnect.
In 2011, the copy stolen from the actor was found and returned to its owner. The comic later sold for a then-record 2.2 million dollars.
According to the auction house, this copy is one of only a hundred remaining in the world. The lot’s condition was described as “incredible.”
The cover depicts Superman in blue tights and a red cape. He holds a green car over his head, the hood of which is smashed against a rock. This issue was published in June 1938.
