American climber Alex Honnold has successfully scaled the outer wall of Taiwan’s tallest building, Taipei 101, without any protection. According to the news portal Focus Taiwan, it took the athlete just over an hour and a half to climb from the ground to the top of the building (508 meters high).
The athlete climbed using small steps on the corners of the 101-story building. The eight overlapping sections in the middle of the building made the climb even more difficult. The attempt was originally scheduled for January 24, but was postponed due to rain.
Honnold is not the first climber to “sink” the tower, but he is the first to do so without any protection. In 2004, French climber Alain Robert also climbed to the top of the building, but he used protective equipment.
Alex Honnold is one of the most famous climbers in the world. He is best known for his “free solo” technique (climbing up rocks without any protection, using only his hands). The film “Free Solo,” about his climb up the famous El Capitan, won an Oscar.
