Today, on July 24, a book fair was held at the State Library of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan. The book fair was organized jointly with the U.S. Embassy in Turkmenistan and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture of Turkmenistan.
Event participants had the opportunity to become acquainted with bilingual editions of American classics, listen to impressive readings, take part in interesting competitions, and study information resources about the United States.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition was held by Lachyn Nurmuhammedova, Acting Director of the State Library of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan, and Elizabeth Rud, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Turkmenistan. On behalf of the Embassy, Ms. Rud presented the library with nearly a thousand books of American classics in Turkmen-English. Nurmuhammedova, in turn, presented the U.S. Ambassador with the book “The Principle of Statehood” by the National Leader of theour Hero Arkadag. The Turkmen and American sides expressed their gratitude to each other and to the participants of the book fair.
The three-part exhibition featured an exhibition of books translated into two languages, presentations on the American education system, and online libraries. Children also had fun activities at the specially designed entertainment areas. During the event, volunteers from the American Center in Ashgabat asked the participants interesting questions about the United States. Those who answered correctly were awarded with books. This book fair, held in the best season for reading, was an unforgettable event for all book lovers.
