On January 20, the Myrat Garryev Turkmen State Medical University held the grand opening of an Ayurveda classroom. Representatives from India, faculty, and students of the university participated in the ceremony.
TSMU Rector Nargozel Myratnazarova and Secretary of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Sibi George delivered welcoming remarks. In their speeches, they emphasized the importance of strengthening medical cooperation between the countries and developing knowledge exchange in traditional medicine.
Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of healing and treatment, which is in demand among medical professionals and researchers worldwide. The establishment of this specialized classroom is a logical continuation of the Turkmen-Indian cooperation in healthcare, which began in 2015 during the official visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Turkmenistan.
As part of this cooperation, a Center for Yoga and Traditional Medicine is already operating in Ashgabat. The center’s faculty teaches classes at the university on the fundamentals of Ayurveda, yoga therapy, and the use of medicinal plants. These classes are offered to students majoring in “Healthcare and Alternative Medicine” and “Sports Medicine.”
