Residents of Beijing are preparing to celebrate the Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year, according to RIA Novosti.
In 2026, the Spring Festival (Chinese Spring Festival) will begin on the night of February 17th. According to the Chinese calendar, it marks the beginning of the Year of the Red Fire Horse, which will end on February 5th, 2027. A long holiday in China began on February 15th and will last until February 23rd.
On the eve of the Chinese New Year, Beijing was dressed in festive red. The streets of the Chinese capital were decorated with scarlet lanterns and installations featuring the horse, the symbol of the coming year, and red paper stickers with the character for “happiness” were placed on the doors of houses. Colorful banners with holiday wishes have been installed on the city’s main pedestrian street, Wangfujing, and numerous shops sell souvenirs for tourists. At the beginning of the street, a sculpture of galloping, multicolored horses has been erected.
Chinese New Year is the most important and longest-running holiday in China and East Asian countries. It symbolizes renewal, family unity, joy, and hope for the future. Its date is variable and calculated according to the lunar calendar.
