Minister of Health of Turkiye announced that Prof. Dr. Gazi Yaşargil, who was chosen as the “Best brain surgeon of the century”, passed away.
Minister of Health of Turkiye Memişoğlu, in his statement on his social media account, noted the following:
“I learned with great sadness of the passing of our professor, Dr. Gazi Yaşargil, who was chosen as the “Best Brain Surgeon of the Century” for his unique studies in his field. He accomplished many exemplary works for all of us during his life that he devoted to science and was close to a century old. We will do our best to keep his memory alive. May he rest in peace and may his rank be high.”
Born on July 6, 1925 in the town of Lice in Diyarbakır, where his father was a district governor, Prof. Dr. Gazi Yaşargil began his medical education at Friedrich Schiller University in Germany in 1943.
Yaşargil, who was chosen as the “Best Neurosurgeon of the Century” by the American Association of Neurosurgeons and was deemed worthy of numerous awards and honors, passed away at the age of 100.
