Boeing received an order from Uzbekistan Airways worth more than 8 billion dollars, according to President Trump, who said the deal followed a conversation with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The companies said Monday that Uzbekistan Airways would buy 14 of Boeing’s 787-9 Dreamliner jets, with options for eight more, which would mark Uzbekistan Airways’ largest purchase to date.
The deal aims to modernize Uzbekistan Airways’ Boeing wide-body fleet, allowing the airline to expand its international routes to the U.S. and other long-haul destinations as demand for international travel rises. The purchase would also support nearly 35,000 U.S. jobs, the companies said.
Boeing and the Uzbekistan Ministry of Transport also signed a memorandum of cooperation to explore opportunities to further expand the country’s aviation ecosystem, the companies said.
