On March 2, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met in Delhi to discuss the strategic partnership between India and Canada and ways to deepen cooperation in trade and investment, according to Armenpress, citing the BBC.
Following the meeting, the leaders held a joint press conference, at which Modi expressed his appreciation for Carney’s visit to India and the elevated level of partnership between India and Canada. “We also discussed increasing trade to 50 billion dollars by 2030 and concluding a comprehensive economic partnership agreement at an early date,” Modi said. He emphasized that India and Canada are natural partners in technology and innovation. Citing Canada’s contribution to the Artificial Intelligence Summit, Modi thanked Carney for facilitating the event’s success.
He said the two countries will coordinate cooperation in space, technology, and critical minerals. Modi emphasized the importance of environmental protection in the bilateral partnership. Carney described his visit as the beginning of a new era of partnership in Indian-Canadian relations.
He noted that the countries are embarking on a strategic energy partnership and also mentioned cooperation in critical minerals and clean energy.
Carney also announced a number of agreements aimed at strengthening educational and cultural ties, including in higher education.
