On March 15, a referendum was held in Kazakhstan on the country’s new Constitution. The new Constitution was supported by 87.15% of voters. On this occasion, the country established Constitution Day.
The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced that on March 15, the country would celebrate a national holiday – Constitution Day.
“We have witnessed a truly historic event that will have a huge impact on the life of our country. As the head of state, I have signed the Constitution of Kazakhstan on behalf of all our people,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at a ceremony dedicated to the adoption of the Constitution of the republic.
“On July 1, the people’s constitution will officially come into force. And we will celebrate Constitution Day every year on March 15 as a national holiday. I sincerely congratulate all our compatriots on the adoption of the Constitution,” the President of Kazakhstan noted.
According to President Tokayev, the Constitution is a steel shield that protects state interests. “One of the main goals of our Constitution is to protect the territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of the country, the rights and freedoms of citizens, and to ensure the strengthening of social justice and the rule of law. It also creates conditions for the development of education, science, innovation, and culture and ensures the protection of nature,” Tokayev noted in his speech.
