From September 29 to October 3, 2025, in the city of Viterbo, Italy, within the framework of cooperation in the “Central Asia – Italy” format, training sessions on sustainable water resources management were held in accordance with the relevant program. Representatives of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the Turkmen Agricultural Institute actively participated in them. As reported by the education.gov.tm.
The aim of the training was to study new international experiences in the rational use of water resources in agriculture, the introduction of innovative irrigation systems, and the effective use of the potential of digital technologies. During the training, scientific and practical presentations were made on the main issues facing modern agriculture, changing climate conditions, and environmental phenomena. The presentations comprehensively described the advantages of drip irrigation systems, water conservation strategies, and new approaches to maintaining soil stability.
The field experience provided an opportunity to get acquainted with the operation of irrigation systems installed at the Tuscia University Training and Experimental Farm in Viterbo. Also, as part of the training, the participants got acquainted with the production of irrigation equipment, new sensor technologies and the capabilities of the irrigation design program called H2OCAD at the TORO enterprise, which produces water-saving equipment. During a visit to the ARSIAL agricultural research center, there was an exchange of ideas and experience on drought-resistant plants, soil and water monitoring systems, and IoT (Internet of Things) technologies. At the Maccarese agricultural enterprise, opportunities were created to get acquainted with modern solutions for digital and precision agriculture, high-yielding orchard planting systems, automatic pest control tools, and scientific work on biogas production.
On the final day of the training, experimental tests were demonstrated to study the state of plants under drought conditions, including the use of the Arcadia spin-off center’s high-throughput phenotyping platform.
The Turkmen delegation paid a working visit to the Republic of Italy, and participation in the above-mentioned training is significant in terms of coordinating our country’s work on water resources management in agriculture, ensuring land sustainability and increasing crop productivity with international experience. Through these trainings, specialists mastered new knowledge and experience in digital management of irrigation systems, the use of water-saving technologies and monitoring crop growth. Such large-scale international cooperation, carried out on the basis of the opportunities created by our esteemed President and National Leader, contributes to the scientific development of our country’s agricultural sector, the introduction of advanced world practices in local conditions, as well as the successful implementation of relevant state programs on the efficient use of water resources.
The active participation of the Turkmen delegation in the studies held at the University of Tuscia in the Italian Republic is another clear example of the country’s consistent expansion of international relations in the field of education and the effective development of agriculture based on innovative technologies.
