On October 23, a ceremonial event dedicated to United Nations Day—observed annually on October 24 to mark the entry into force of the UN Charter—was held at the UN building in Ashgabat.

Representatives attended the event, organized by the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, from relevant Turkmen ministries and sectoral administrative agencies, as well as members of the mass media.

At the opening of the event, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Mahri Bashimova and UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Grace Wang delivered speeches.

The speeches highlighted the significant role of the United Nations in ensuring global peace and security, strengthening international cooperation, and promoting sustainable development. It was noted that Turkmenistan views the UN as a universal and legitimate international organization—grounded in the norms of international law and the principles of the UN Charter—that plays a central role in addressing contemporary global challenges.

Special attention was paid to the strategic nature of Turkmenistan’s long-standing cooperation with the UN. This cooperation encompasses a wide range of areas, including ensuring international peace and security, sustainable development, ecology, transport, energy, humanitarian cooperation, and the protection of human rights.

It was noted that Turkmenistan consistently supports the strengthening of multilateral diplomacy, the expansion of international dialogue, and the enhancement of the UN’s role in addressing contemporary threats. In this context, particular emphasis was placed on the country’s initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of peace and trust, developing preventive diplomacy, and promoting the principles of neutrality at the international level.

The event reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, as well as its readiness to continue effective cooperation with the UN in the interests of peace, security, and sustainable development.
