An environmental event for children was held at the Avaza National Tourist Zone to mark Caspian Sea Day. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and its partners organized the event as part of the UNDP-UNEP regional project “Combating Marine Litter and Marine Plastics – A Systems Approach in the Caspian Sea,” implemented with financial support from the Russian Federation.
Participants in the event included children vacationing at the Dayanch and Arzuv children’s health centers. During interactive activities, the young participants learned about the biodiversity of the Caspian Sea, the risks of plastic pollution and microplastics, and the importance of environmental initiatives to protect the marine ecosystem.
The program also included practical training sessions on water and coastal safety, fire safety, and first aid. The event concluded with a themed quest, “Defenders of the Caspian,” and a creative workshop where children created eco-posters and learned basic environmental monitoring tools.
