A delegation from St. Petersburg, led by Vice Governor Vladimir Omelnitsky, arrived in Turkmenistan on a working visit, according to the country’s International Information Center.
During the program, the guests visited the “People’s Memory” memorial complex, where they laid flowers as a sign of respect for the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. A memorial meeting with Galina Mamedova, a resident of Leningrad during the siege, was also held at the Russian Embassy – a reminder of our shared history and how, during the harsh war years, the Turkmen land welcomed 32,000 Leningraders.
During the visit, talks were held with Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Bahar Seidova. The parties discussed strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties, including St. Petersburg’s initiatives to host theater tours and museum exhibitions in Ashgabat, and to develop medical cooperation.
A key event of the program will be the ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the future “Friendship” monument in Victory Park, which symbolizes the strategic partnership between the two countries.
