A scientific and practical conference was held at the Special Music Boarding School of the Maya Kulieva Turkmen National Conservatory. The event was dedicated to the life and work of Veli Mukhadov, the founder of national opera and a classic of Turkmen music.
The forum’s guest of honor, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Rayev, emphasized that Mukhadov’s legacy is the heritage of the entire Turkic world. His music serves as a connecting link, uniting fraternal peoples through shared cultural roots.
Participants recalled the composer’s phenomenal success during his years at the Moscow Conservatory. Veli Mukhadov became the only student in the university’s history to be awarded the USSR State Prize for two consecutive years—for his “Turkmen Suite” and the symphonic poem “My Homeland.”
Particular attention was given to the operas “Zöhre we Tahyr” and “Ganly saka,” which laid the foundation for the national opera school by harmoniously blending folkloric plots with classical symphonic forms.
The event’s program was not limited to presentations. A concert and master classes were held as part of the conference.
Conference participants noted that promoting the legacy of such masters is a priority of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s state policy aimed at preserving Turkmenistan’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
