The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan is currently hosting the annual International Exhibition and Scientific Conference on “Healthcare, Education, and Sports in the Era of the Revival of the New Epoch of a Powerful State”. Jointly Organized by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, the Ministry of Education, and the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports, the three-day event brings together domestic institutions alongside a wide range of foreign higher education institutions, scientific centers, and cultural organizations to showcase global innovations and strengthen cross-border partnerships.

The exposition floor features pavilions from domestic universities alongside prominent foreign higher education institutions and diplomatic cultural centers, offering students and professionals insight into international academic mobility, dual-degree programs, and language study.

Among the foreign representatives participating in the exhibition, delegates shared details regarding their programs, credit transfer options, and cultural projects with the participants of the event. We interviewed with some of them.

Our interviewee is Wong Jie Han, Representative of IMU University (Malaysia). He explained us about the IMU and other higher educations in Malaysia:

“Hello, my name is Jie Han. I’m from Malaysia, representing IMU University. We are actually Malaysia’s first private medical university, specializing in medical and health sciences programs. The university was established in 1992, so we have more than 30 years of history.

At IMU University, we offer a medicine program, as well as programs in dentistry, pharmacy, and a range of health sciences, including biomedical science, medical biotechnology, nutrition, food science, and nursing. We also offer complementary medicine, such as Chinese medicine and chiropractic programs.

What makes our university special is that we collaborate with many institutions across the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Malta, China, and several other countries. Through these collaborations, we offer credit transfer options, meaning students can come to IMU University, study part of their program, and eventually transfer their credits to one of these partner universities to complete their degree and graduate with a degree awarded by the partner institution.

IMU University has nearly 5000 students enrolled across various programs. We are located in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia.

This is our second time visiting Turkmenistan—we were last here about five or six years ago—so it is great to be back. In the past, we have had a few students from Turkmenistan, though not many. That is why we are here to promote our university and encourage students to consider studying in Malaysia. We hope that more Turkmen students will become familiar with Malaysia and consider pursuing their education with us.

Regarding postgraduate offerings, we do have Master and PhD programs, including a PhD in Healthcare Management as well as a PhD in Medical and Health Sciences Research.

Representatives from several other Malaysian private universities, including Taylor’s University, Monash University (which has a branch campus in Malaysia), Management and Science University (MSU), Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Sunway University, Asia Pacific University, INTI University, and Swinburne University, also join me today.

As a private university in Malaysia, we also offer our own internal scholarship opportunities for select programs” said the university representative.

Then we interviewed with Director of the French Institute of Turkmenistan:

“Hello, this is the French Institute of Turkmenistan. I’m Vincent Lorenzini, the director of the French Institute. We offer French language lessons, French language courses, and many cultural activities at the French Institute and you are all very welcome to come and visit us”. He also welcomed all interested sides in Turkmen language “Sizleri ähliňizi Türkmenistandaky Fransuz Institutyna çagyrýarys”.

We have around 1000 students each year at the French Institute, averaging approximately 300 students per term. The French language is taught at all proficiency levels, from A1 to C2, and all age groups are represented. Our youngest learners start at 4 years old, and there is no upper age limit to learn French.

In addition to our educational programs, we are currently hosting a very interesting exhibition at the French Institute about the journey that French photographer Paul Nadar took in 1890 the places of the Central Asia. A fascinating photographic exhibition shows what Turkmenistan was like in the 19th century. This beautiful exhibition is presented at the Paul Nadar Gallery of the French Institute. It is open every day, and I invite all of you to come and visit”.
