The “Big Book” (Bolshaya Kniga) national literary award has announced the “Long List” of the 21st season, which includes the 40 best books selected from 465 works submitted from 11 countries around the world. The list includes works by such famous writers as “Popovich” by Sergei Shargunov, “Madame Palazzo” by Lev Danilkin, “Yudol” by Mikhail Yelizarov, and “Tuma” by Zakhar Prilep. The list, compiled by the expert council headed by Andrei Astvasaturov, includes 10 works in the “Non-fiction” and 30 works in the “Masterpiece of Prose” categories.
According to experts, this list fully reflects the innovative and traditional research of modern Russian literature and its connection with classic literature. The “Short List” of the award will be announced on June 3 before the “Red Square” book festival, and the winners will be announced at a ceremony in December. This prestigious award, which has been presented since 2006, will also present awards in additional categories such as “Readers’ Choice”, “Generations’ Choice”, and “For Contribution to Literature”, and will launch the “Litblog” competition.
