On September 1, the anniversary summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held in Bishkek, where the Bishkek Declaration and about 30 important documents dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the organization were signed. This prestigious event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the organization was attended by leaders of all 10 SCO member states, and the meeting was held under the slogan “25 years of the SCO: together on the path of peace, development and prosperity.”
On the main day of the summit, September 1, the SCO Council meeting was held first, followed by meetings in the “SCO Plus” format. The documents signed as a result of the high-level meeting included the Regulation on the establishment of the General Center for Countering Emerging Threats and Threats to the Security of the Member States, and the Plan for the Development of Ports and Logistics Centers for 2026-2030.
The Declaration on Strengthening Multilateral Cooperation to Ensure Nuclear and Physical Nuclear Security, the Council Statement on Developing Cooperation in the Energy Sector, and the SCO Cooperation Program for the Formation of the “Green Technological Corridor” for 2026-2030 were also approved. In accordance with the Bishkek Declaration, the member states expressed their full support for Iran’s sovereignty and called for the settlement of disputed issues exclusively through diplomatic means.
In addition, the meeting signed a protocol on amendments and additions to the organization’s Charter of June 7, 2002. The parties approved the Cooperation Program on Countering Narcotics for the Period Until 2030, the Program of Coordinated Actions to Combat the Spread of Synthetic Drugs until 2030, and the SCO Initiative on Biodiversity Conservation. During the summit, a wide range of important issues were discussed, ranging from regional security issues to the use of artificial intelligence in the economy.
