On June 18, former US President Barack Obama celebrated the grand opening of his presidential center in the presence of world-famous stars and prominent politicians. The ceremony, which took place in Chicago, was broadcast live and featured former US Presidents Joe Biden, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, as well as famous singers such as Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Christina Aguilera, and Bono.
Valerie Jarrett, CEO and former senior advisor to the Obama Foundation, emphasized that the celebration should inspire people around the world and increase their faith in change. This large centre, which occupies almost 20 acres in Jackson Park on the south side of Chicago, is expected to attract more than one million visitors a year. The complex also features a statue of former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
In addition to a huge museum that tells the political and personal life of the first black President, the territory of this large facility also houses a branch of the Chicago Public Library, basketball courts, a sports center, a children’s playground and walking areas. Visitors to the museum can also see a full-size replica of the Oval Office in the White House. It also features several of Michelle Obama’s famous gowns, including the Atelier Versace gown she wore to her last state reception in 2016.
