The national chess team of Turkmenistan took part in the international chess tournament “Vladimir Dvorkovich Memorial – Aktobe Open 2026” held in Aktobe on June 3-11 as part of a training camp in Kazakhstan.
The tournament consisted of 9 rounds, was held according to the Swiss system and included two categories: Masters and Open. 210 chess players from 21 countries of the world, including 23 grandmasters, took part in it.
Our country’s chess player Mahri Agamuradova (FIDE rating – 2049) successfully performed at the tournament. She scored 6 points in the Open category, taking 15th place and showing the best result among all female participants of the tournament. As a result of her successful performance, she added 83.2 points to her FIDE rating, reaching the rating indicator corresponding to the FIDE Master (WFM) sports rank among women.
16-year-old Mahri is a 10th grade student at a specialized foreign language school in Turkmenabat. Her chess coach is Guljakhan Owlyakulyeva. Turgenev’s activity, determination, and positive attitude are clearly reflected in her playing style.
As a result of the competition, other members of the national team also gained points in their ratings:
• Ogulsuray Bairambayeva (1944) – +8.2 points;
• Jahan Rejepova (2057) – +26.8 points;
• Leyla Shohradova (2081) – +5.2 points.
In the Masters category, where chess players with a FIDE rating of over 2400 can compete, promising chess player Amanmuhammet Hommadov (FIDE rating – 2385) represented the tournament. Among his opponents were six grandmasters and one international master.
As a result of the competition, Amanmuhammet increased his rating by 10.6 points and came closer to fulfilling the International Master (IM) level.
The winner of the Masters category was Grandmaster Andrew Hong from the United States (rating – 2587). In the Open category, FIDE Master Alan Petukhov from Kazakhstan (rating – 2308) took first place.
The preparation of the national team of Turkmenistan continues. The team is preparing for one of the most important tournaments in the world chess calendar – the 46th World Chess Olympiad, which will be held in September in Samarkand.
