Italian fashion icon and world-renowned designer Valentino Garavani has died at the age of 93. The fashion designer, who made his name at fashion shows with the color “Valentino red”, was laid to rest in Rome.
Italian media reports said Garavani died at his home in Rome.
Following the news, leaders and representatives from the worlds of politics, fashion and business expressed their condolences.
Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni wrote on his social media account: “Valentino, the undisputed master of style and elegance and the eternal symbol of Italian haute couture. Today, an Italian legend has lost his identity, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations. Thank you for everything!”
The fashion designer Valentino, whose full name is Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani, became known as Valentino. He was born on May 11, 1932 in Voghera, in the province of Pavia. In 1957, he founded his eponymous fashion house. He also worked with world-famous actresses.
