Filming for the first China-Kazakhstan co-production web series titled “Waiting for You in Ili” began in the city of Horgos in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Saturday.
The series “I’m Waiting for You in Ili” will be set against the backdrop of the picturesque Ili Valley, focusing on the coming of age of the young generation in a new era and international friendship.
Let us recall that on July 16 of this year, within the framework of the 2nd television festival of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries in the city of Xi’an (the administrative center of Shaanxi Province, Northwest China), the start of production of the web series was announced.
“The series, which features the landscapes of Ili, multinational culture and youth entrepreneurship, also touches on cross-border trade between China and Kazakhstan. It is the best demonstration that the mutual visa-free policy of the two countries really benefits the people of the two countries,” said Umut Yelken, producer of the web series “I’m Waiting for You in Ili.”
“Even though it’s my first time in Ili, I am honored to play a role in the series. It is very important for us to use the footage to tell the story of friendship between young people from the two countries,” said Chinese actor Zhang Guangbei.
Ilham Ibragimov, CEO of Kazakhstan’s Channel Seven, noted that the series will help further deepen friendly relations between the two countries and allow more countries to understand the culture and history of China and Kazakhstan.
As a practical example of audiovisual cooperation between SCO countries, “I’m Waiting for You in Ili” is expected to be promoted simultaneously on China’s leading online platforms and in Kazakhstan’s mainstream media.
