Foreign languages week, dedicated to English and Japanese, was held on a grand scale at Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan. This week-long event was jointly organized by dedicated teachers and enthusiastic students of the Department of foreign languages for technical fields and the Language Learning department. The event included cultural exhibitions, interactive activities, and interesting competitions, as reported by the education.gov.tm.
One of the highlights was the Japanese culture exhibition. The students prepared Japanese national costumes, literature, art products and, in particular, work in the style of origami. These handmade works—folded cranes, flowers, and other creative pieces—lined tables and corners of the exhibition hall, inviting visitors to pause, admire, and learn. Each display bore small explanations in English and Japanese, giving context to every item.
Department of foreign languages for technical fields and the Language Learning department prepared a series of mini‑games and icebreakers for all students, with special attention to newly enrolled students from the Language Learning Department. The goal was simple yet powerful: to foster connection, mutual curiosity, and comfort using foreign languages. Students further strengthened the overall atmosphere, solving riddles, acting out short scenes and performing short speeches.
The entire campus was transformed during the week. Corridors echoed with bilingual greetings; decorations with Japanese motifs—paper lanterns, cherry-blossom prints, calligraphy—lined windows and walls. The atmosphere was mesmerizing, steeped in tradition, yet youthful and energetic.
By the closing ceremony, many participants remarked that the week deepened their interest in Japan, strengthened their English skills, and made them feel more part of a global community. Teachers and organizers noted that such inclusive, cross-cultural events help enrich academic life and bridge cultural understanding.
Looking ahead, many hopeful students proposed repeating the event each year, expanding to include more languages, workshops, guest speakers, or even exchange programs.
