The Czech opposition movement Action of Dissatisfied Citizens (ANO), led by former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, has won the country’s parliamentary elections, according to official results released on Saturday after the votes were almost fully counted.
With data from over 99 percent of polling stations processed, ANO received 34.6 percent of the vote, while the ruling center-right coalition SPOLU came in second with 23.3 percent.
Other parties that cleared the 5 percent threshold included the Mayors and Independents (STAN) movement with 11.2 percent, the Czech Pirate Party with 8.9 percent, the far-right Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) movement with 7.8 percent, and the populist Motorists for Yourself party with almost 6.8 percent.
- Babiš, for his part, called the election results the highlight of his political career.
“We are incredibly happy and thank everyone who came to the polls,” he emphasized, declaring that ANO achieved a historic result.
