After months of speculation, it has been officially confirmed that four separate films depicting the rise of The Beatles are in development. Titled “The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event,” the project will be directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes. The highly anticipated films will feature a star-studded cast of emerging actors:
Paul Mescal (of “Aftersun”) will portray Paul McCartney.
Barry Keoghan (of “Saltburn”) will play Ringo Starr.
Harris Dickinson (of “Scramblers”) will take on the role of John Lennon.
Joseph Quinn (of “Gladiator II”) will star as George Harrison.
Director Sam Mendes provided further details regarding his upcoming four-film project, “The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event,” during Sony Pictures’ presentation at CinemaCon on March 31st.
Confirming the project’s ambitious scope, Mendes revealed the logline: “Each man has his own story, but together they are legends.” The films will be structured as four interconnected biopics, each told from the perspective of a different band member: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
While the release order of the films remains undisclosed, Sony Pictures has announced that all four installments are slated for release in April 2028. This simultaneous release strategy aims to create a unique “bingeable” cinematic experience, a concept Mendes likened to a “double-take” akin to the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon.
