On January 27, a regular meeting of the Council of Permanent Representatives of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member states was held in Tehran.
The meeting addressed the implementation of the work outlined in the Awaza Action Program for 2024-2034.
Specifically, the Organization proposed a project to implement the Program’s third priority area, “Transit, Transport, and Connectivity,” in the ECO region. The Council supported this proposal, as well as the organization of meetings to support its implementation. Ambassador of Turkmenistan and Permanent Representative to the ECO I. Gayipov expressed gratitude to the ECO Secretariat and representatives of the member states for their support of this initiative and expressed confidence in the active participation of all parties in its implementation.
In addition, the meeting participants were briefed on the Organization’s work on the topic “Awaza Action Program for 2024-2034 and the ECO Region” within the framework of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, as well as on planned steps for the coming period.
Previously, at the suggestion of the Turkmen side, the third priority area of the Awaza Action Program, entitled “Transit, Transport, and Connectivity,” was reflected in the draft ECO document “Strategic Goals for Economic Cooperation – 2035,” which is planned for adoption in the near future.
