President Alassane Ouattara has won re-election in the Ivory Coast’s presidential vote.

The country’s Independent Electoral Commission announced on 27 October, that the 83-year-old incumbent had won a fourth term with 89.77 percent of the ballots cast.

The Constitutional Council will officially announce the results of the elections soon, after they have been certified. Under Ivory Coast law, the President is elected by direct popular vote for a five-year term. Ouattara, previously served as head of the Central Bank of West African States and deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund.
