According to the government’s economic survey published at the end of the year, India made a significant leap forward, overtaking Japan to become the world’s fourth-largest economy in nominal GDP terms, The Times of India reports.

“With a GDP of $4.18 trillion, India has overtaken Japan to become the world’s fourth-largest economy,” the report states. It also notes that New Delhi could displace Germany from third place in this ranking within the next 2.5 to 3 years.

According to the publication, India has been the world’s fastest-growing economy for several years running and has every chance of maintaining this growth rate.
